Can Parés is a beautiful Catalan masía, located next to the village of Sant Pere de Ribes, just a few minutes from the Sitges coastline.

It is the project and home of Caroline, Martin, and Romy. Passionate about art, music, and gatherings with friends, they have turned their house into a warm and inspiring guesthouse.

Mindful of the natural environment around them and committed to ecology and good food, they wanted to dedicate part of their garden to the creation of a permaculture vegetable garden. We worked hand in hand to design and build this space, completing the virtuous circle from farm to table.

The project was based on the principles of permaculture: saving water, optimizing space through dense planting, favoring self-seeding plants to reduce the need for seedlings, minimizing physical intervention by allowing the garden to evolve naturally, and applying organic cultivation techniques.

We intervened as little as possible, avoiding soil tilling to preserve its nutritional richness. We created a series of lasagna beds, a permaculture technique that consists of layering organic matter to regenerate and naturally increase soil fertility. We planted a variety of vegetables, small fruits, and aromatic and medicinal herbs, and added an organic mulch to prevent soil erosion.

To accompany the creation of the vegetable garden, we provided a maintenance guide so they could continue cultivating and developing this fertile piece of land.

Today, we remain in touch and visit from time to time. Caring for the vegetable garden has become part of
their daily life, and their guests can enjoy a seasonal, home-cooked cuisine. The project continues to grow
naturally, with the addition of a small chicken coop that completes this domestic ecosystem.
